Bloomington, Indiana (November 15, 2013) – Visit Bloomington and the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District (BEAD) recently won the 2013 Arts Destination Marketing Award presented annually to destination marketing organizations and local arts agencies that work collaboratively using the arts to market their community as a travel destination.
Established by Americans for the Arts and Destination Marketing Association International, this national award recognized the tremendous growth the Bloomington area has realized in recent years from visitors coming here to experience arts and cultural events. Visit Bloomington and BEAD work with area artists and art-related events and attractions to promote them to visitors. According to an Americans for the Arts study, the arts create 3,450 local jobs and $72.3 million is spent annually on arts and entertainment in the Bloomington area.
“We are lucky to have so many great artists and organizations to partner with not only in Bloomington, but all of Monroe County,” said Visit Bloomington Executive Director, Mike McAfee. “Interest from people searching for art information on our website has increased by 213% in the last five years and 57% of our visitors attend a theater performance, visit a museum or enjoy live music while they are here,” added McAfee.
Miah Michaelsen, City of Bloomington’s Assistant Economic Development Director for the Arts stated, “BEAD’s mission is to bring the business and creative sectors together to advance commerce and culture, build community and spur economic development. This award is a perfect example of those partnerships working.”
